Why do ZHC front panel ports fail?

The RJ45 ports on the front panel of the Z-Distribution ZHC are designed to interface with a Z-Balun device.

The front port pinout on the ZHCs is proprietary to Z-Band for the operation of the Z-Baluns and is not wired to IEEE 802.3 standards. Pins 7 and 8 carry a DC voltage to power the Z-Balun device. Therefore plugging in a standard ethernet endpoint or POE (Power over Ethernet) device will cause damage and port failure due to ethernet magnetics.
